HIRING: 100 jobs created as Kmart prepares to open

DISCOUNT department store Kmart has started hiring in anticipation of opening its newest Toowoomba store at Grand Central.

The chain is opening in March this year and announced it was hiring on a casual basis.

The Chronicle understands more than 100 jobs will be created.

The following casual positions are on offer at the new store:

  • Customer service roles in the home, kids and clothing departments
  • Service areas such as registers and customer service desk
  • Stock room receiving

"We are seeking people who are passionate about providing first class customer service, who love being part of a big team and who want to join a great Australian and New Zealand retailer," the retailer announced.

"Flexibility is a must as all positions may include weekend, evening, and late night shifts."

Group interviews will be held on January 21 and roles will start in late February in preparation for the March opening.

The chain promised to train all new staff.

"We will provide you with all the training you need.

Grand Central announced in previously that Kmart and Big W were coming to Grand Central along with 160 new specialty retailers.

A Woolworths supermarket will also be in the centre for the first time.

The development will also deliver a new fresh food precinct and alfresco dining destination that will include restaurants, cafes and street food.
