Help out this Christmas

MORE volunteers are at the top of the wish list for Vinnies Chinchilla this festive season.

Those harbouring a jolly attitude and keen to give the gift that keeps giving are being called upon to offer the hardworking team a hand on deck.

Centre coordinator Jenny Hunt said the holiday season was a busy time for Vinnies.

"We are inundated with donations in the holiday season,” Ms Hunt said.

"The people of Chinchilla are very generous, very warm and welcoming, but with everyone leading a busy life our volunteers are often short on time.”

Ms Hunt said the team would be delighted with any help they could get.

"If people aren't going anywhere and have the time, we would love some extra help,” she said.

"If they can spare an hour, I would be happy. Half a day, great. A full day, even better.”

Margaret Casey has been volunteering for Vinnies for the past 16 years and knows all too well the valuable contribution her time makes.

"People are doing it tough and the effort that we are putting in here goes into providing housing and the necessities of life for those in need,” Mrs Casey said.

"That's the aim of the game.”

She said new volunteers would help make the Christmas season a bit brighter for all.

"Around Christmas time we will get people in who can't afford to buy Christmas presents for their kids, so we will happily chuck things together for them,” Ms Hunt explained.

"If we have got it, we'll give it.”
