FORGET THE Lego, all Aedan Harris wants for his seventh birthday is to be able to stand up.

But it will cost his family about $18,000 to get the sit-to-stand wheelchair he desperately needs to get around.

Aedan has cerebral palsy and at the moment he is confined to a pram like wheelchair which can only be moved by being pushed.

The gift of a sit-to-stand wheelchair could be a game changer for him.

His mum, Donna Harris, is hoping the ability to stand upright will allow her son to develop weight bearing strength in his legs.

"The doctors have never said he will walk, but they have never said he won't...and miracles happen every day," she said.

"It will be a whole new world as he'll be able to stand up to reach things he hasn't yet been able to reach by himself."

The sit-to-stand wheelchair will also allow Aedan to move about in both sitting and standing positions.

While about $7000 has already been raised since fundraising efforts began in June this year, Donna wants more businesses from the Fraser Coast community to dig deep.

"I've always believed it takes a village to raise a child, and with an Aedan we have been so blessed that the entire Fraser Coast is such a wonderful village," she said.

While the sit-to-stand wheelchair dream is close, it's just out of reach.

A trial of the special wheelchair has been organised for Aedan at the beginning of next month, but more money is needed to buy it.

An online auction will be held next week on Aedan's birthday on Thursday to raise the extra funds needed.

So far about 40 businesses and individuals have donated items totalling about $6000, which includes gift vouchers, natural therapy visits, holiday accommodation and sporting paraphernalia.
