Harvey Norman security guard shot: Man charged

UPDATE: Police have charged a man over the shooting at Harvey Norman at Everton Park in which a security guard received a gunshot wound to the leg.

It will be alleged that around 1.05am, a security guard was performing static patrol of a business premises on South Pine Road when he was approached by a man who threatened him with a gun, demanding the keys for his car.

It is further alleged that when the security officer refused, the man shot him in the right ankle before fleeing the scene on foot.

The security guard, a 62-year-old man, was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries to his leg.

A 26-year-old Virginia man has been charged with one count each of attempted armed robbery, acts intended to maim, dangerous conduct with weapon, discharge weapon in a public place, possess shortened firearm, and unlawful possession of category C weapon used to commit indictable offence.

He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this afternoon.
