Young lad steals ‘Grandma’s’ belly button rings

BILOELA lad Brandon Ray was spotted by police out walking carrying two bottles of stolen Royal Reserve Port.

A search found car keys and "belly button rings". "He says the rings were his grandmother's," prosecutor Gavin Reece told Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Mr Reece said a handbag stolen from a car was found hidden up a nearby tree.

Ray admitted taking the keys and belly rings from the handbag he stole from the unlocked parked car.

Ray, 21, pleaded guilty to entering a liquor store and stealing the port valued at $9.50 each; and stealing the other items.

Magistrate Richard Lehmann accepted medical evidence about Ray's mental health.

Taking account of the time Ray had spent in custody he was sentenced to three months jail with immediate release to parole.
