Glee creator's new murder mystery a scream
NOT even the cast of Scream Queens know who the killer is.
The new comedy horror show from Glee creator Ryan Murphy, which had its global premiere in Los Angeles yesterday, has been praised as a "sorority-slasher howler" and horror movie send-up that succeeds more often than not in being funny when it's trying to be.
Star Skyler Samuels plays Grace Gardner, a pledge in Wallace University's Kappa Kappa Tau, which is rocked by a series of murders 20 years after a mysterious death took place at the sorority house.
Each of the show's 15 episodes features a gruesome, and eccentric, murder with only a handful of characters to survive the bloodbath for a berth in a possible second season.
"Nobody knows the outcome of this crazy story," Samuels tells APN.
"We've basically been playing the biggest game of Clue ever. Now that we've gotten to (filming) the final episodes, we're taking bets on who we think the killer's going to be. It's so fun.
"The only information we have is the script in front of us, so you just hope when you pick up an episode you're not dead or if you do die then you hope your death is super awesome. It's a crazy job that way."
But if Murphy's American Horror Story kept you up at night, then there's nothing to fear from Scream Queens according to Samuels. She should know, she featured in the fourth season of American Horror Story.
"A lot of the murder concepts are goofy," she says.
"It's not going to keep you up and give you nightmares like American Horror Story does.
"It's fright light. You can laugh and get a little frightened."
Scream Queens premieres tonight at 9pm on Channel 10. Further episodes will air on ELEVEN.
