A FARMER has escaped what could have been a life-threatening incident with minor injuries after being trapped under a piece of heavy farming equipment this afternoon.

Greg Johnston managed to raise the alarm with fellow workers after he got trapped under the farm equipment when it tipped on its side about noon.

Another worker on the dairy farm at Kaimkillenbun, north-east of Dalby, heard Mr Johnston's calls for help and called emergency services.

Mr Johnston's son Tony Johnston said it was fortunate the worker was nearby and was able to come to his father's aid.

He said the worker heard a loud bang when the farm machinery tip on its side.

Tony said his father had suffered a broken ankle as a result of the incident and was in shock, but knew it could have been worse.

Dalby rural firefighters and Queensland Ambulance Service crews worked to free Mr Johnston from under the machinery and stabilised him on scene.

He was transported to Toowoomba Hospital by the Queensland Government Rescue 500 helicopter service.
