Farah deserved fond farewell from Tigers

AN EMOTIONAL Robbie Farah declared he would be a "Tiger for life” as thousands of fans packed Leichhardt Oval to say thanks and farewell one of the club's all-time greats.

Tipped to sign with South Sydney, Farah was clearly moved by the outpouring of love from fans that stood on their feet during the half-time break and cheered their hero as he did a lap of honour on his favourite ground.

It was the end of a two-year battle with Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor, who forced him to play elsewhere because of his desire to have his young halves Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks to run the show.

Whichever side of the fence you are on, Farah deserved the opportunity to say his farewell to Tigers fans after 247 games for the club, including the 2005 grand final win over North Queensland.

Farah fought back tears as he walked around Leichhardt Oval while fans waves banners and called out his name.

"It's obviously a bitter-sweet day,” said Farah, his voice wavering with emotion.

"I love these fans; they given me enormous support throughout my career and every time I ran out in the jumper I played for the fans.

"I'm a Tiger for life and I am sure I will come back here one day in another capacity.

"It hasn't ended the way I would have liked but I just want to remember all the good times I've had and thank all the fans for their support since I came here as a young kid.”

Farah, 32, is expected to confirm he has signed a deal with South Sydney next season.

"It probably won't sink in until I am wearing different colours next year but I am looking forward to that challenge,” he said.
