THE depth of talent in the local junior rugby league competition has been confirmed with 10 players eyeing off the state titles after being named in South West Mustangs representative sides.

Miles Junior Rugby League Club hosted the selection trials earlier this month with players from the South West Stockmen going head-to-head with players from Toowoomba, Roma and Warwick in a bid to earn selection.

William Pascoe from Chinchilla and Martyn Steel from Miles were selected in the under-13 boys team while Kye Taffe and Bryton Nimo from Chinchilla and Jed Bignall from Miles were chosen for the under 14s. Chinchilla's Matt Eising was named in the under-16 side.

It was a stellar day for the Chinchilla girls as well with Emily Faint making the under-14 side and Tahlia Pearson, Antonia Roma and Katayan Jackson included in the under-16 team.

South West Stockmen under-14s coach Mark Lingard said the players were "very impressive” on the day and pushed hard to be selected.

"To get that many kids selected from one town is a pretty big deal and the strength of the juniors and their performance, it's really good for our club,” he said.

"It's a great achievement. I know Toowoomba and Warwick have been training since before Christmas. We only started training in April and had two trial matches two weeks before selection.”

Lingard said there is "definitely potential” for some of the Stockmen players to earn a place in the Central Crows side when the trials are staged in Gladstone in June.

"I think definitely for young Kay Taffe and certainly Matt Eising. I know from the kids I coached there is definitely some potential for them to go on.”
