Enjoying the Middle Ages at Pumpkin Festival

ESLITE d'Corps is a 14th century Living History group which recreates activities of an English household and military force in the years 1340-1380.

Those years were the first half of the 100 years war during the Middle Ages.

The corp is based on an English household, with other cultures represented by association; Scottish, Irish, Welsh, French, German, Italian and more, giving the group a robust impression of the Middle Ages in Western Europe.

Eslite d'Corps members travel extensively, not only for jousting and combat events and tournaments, but to also extend their research of the Middle Ages.

The recently returned from Prague in the Czech Republic where they were a part of an Australian national team taking on more than 30 other countries in a full contact tournament, called the Battle of the Nations.

At this year's Goomeri Pumpkin Festival, Eslite d'Corps members will be putting on combat displays, demonstrating heavy long bows similar to those used at the Battle of Agincourt, and displaying early black powder cannons.

They will also have an archery range set up for festival-goers to try their hand at shooting rubber- tipped arrows - at pumpkins naturally.

And, there will be a medieval encampment with cooking, brewing and day-to-day activities of the Middle Ages taking place.

Visitors to the encampment will also be able to try on parts of armour and feel the weight of a medieval sword or axe.

The corp members will also demonstrate the effects of medieval weapons on pumpkins. Suitable for all ages from young to old.

Sir Justyn, (pictured) in full Middle Ages regalia, will be one of the Eslite d'Corps members at this year's Goomeri Pumpkin Festival, on Sunday, May 29.

The festival opens at 6am and continues throughout the day with myriad of activities, competitions, food stalls, entertainment and so much more.

To get there: Goomeri is just 78km from Gympie on the Wide Bay Hwy, through Kilkivan and on to Goomeri.
