Drug driver caught after using weed night before
A MOTORIST caught driving with drugs in his system has been fined.
At Ipswich Magistrates Court, Steven John McCarthy pleaded guilty to a drug-driving charge.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Jo Colston said the 55-year-old was stopped by police in Charlton on June 1.
A test for drugs showed McCarthy had Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects - in his saliva.
Defence lawyer John Tapp said his client was employed and didn't have any previous convictions for similar offences. He said McCarthy had used a "minimal" amount of cannabis the night before he was pulled over.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess told McCarthy the drug stayed in people's system's for "lengthy" amounts of time. McCarthy was fined $200 and disqualified for one month.
