Drug addict aims vehicle at his pregnant partner

A PREGNANT woman had to jump over a fence to avoid being run over by a car, which was being driven by her drug addict partner.

The woman had a domestic violence order against the 30-year-old man - who cannot be named for legal reasons - when the incident took place.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court, the man pleaded guilty to breaching the order as well as a dangerous operation of a motor vehicle charge.

The woman had been walking down a footpath in Beenleigh on December 19, 2013, when the man spotted her as he was driving past.

Magistrate Aaron Simpson said the man made a u-turn, drove towards his partner and mounted the footpath.

The woman, who was pregnant with the couple's child, was forced to push her hands against the car, then jump a fence to avoid being run over.

Mr Simpson said even though it was not known how fast the man was driving when the offence took place, he had used his vehicle in an aggressive way.

"I view that as a very serious matter," he said.

"I hope you realise the fright you caused your partner and the danger you put her and your unborn child in."

Mr Simpson noted at the time of the offending the man had an ice addiction but was now clean of the drug.

He also noted the man's criminal history contained no previous convictions for violence or dangerous driving.

For both charges, the man was sentenced to 12 months in prison and released on parole.

He was also disqualified from driving for nine months.
