Done deal: Knights sign Guerra from Roosters

NEWCASTLE has officially netted its second big signing for 2018, with Sydney Roosters forward Aidan Guerra to join the club on a three-year deal.

Guerra, 29, made his NRL debut in 2010 and has made 140 first-grade appearances to date.

In addition to club duties, he's also represented Australia in one Test and Queensland in 10 Origins.

"Aidan will be a great addition to our young side," Knights CEO Matt Gidley said on Thursday.

"Aidan is a representative and premiership-winning player who will bring athleticism, experience and leadership to our team from a very successful career to date."

After signing book rookie Kalyn Ponga last year, it's been a tough couple of months for the Knights in the player market after missing out on the likes of Jack Bird, Matt Prior and Matt Scott.

Coach Nathan Brown said the club would continue to be active in recruitment.

"We know that we're certainly in the situation where we need to recruit more players," he said.

"We're very confident that we'll come up with some more signings over the next month.

"How many I don't yet know, but they'll certainly help our squad get a lot better."

Gidley echoed Brown's comments.

"The club will continue to monitor the player market and recruit players who can complement the emerging players in our roster," he said.

The club is also considering making a play for Guerra's former Tricolours teammate Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

But any deal would heavily depend on whether Kenny-Dowall escapes conviction for alleged drug possession at a court case next week.
