Dalby anti-COVID organiser arrested, firearms seized

THE man who organised an anti-coronavirus rally has been arrested outside Maranoa MP David Littleproud’s office, and has had four weapons seized by police.

Dalby police sergeant Rod Thurn told News police will allege the 46-year-old man was seen posting flyers advertising the anti-coronavirus rally outside Mr Littleproud’s office in Dalby on Tuesday which were later removed by office staff.

The man then allegedly launched into an abusive and threatening tirade against staff who contacted police immediately.

The man was identified by police as the organiser of the protest after anonymously posting flyers in the Dalby CBD on buildings and car windscreens calling for citizens to protest coronavirus induced lockdowns.

Police were later made aware that he was the owner of a weapons licence.

Sgt Thurn said police attended the man’s address and seized four firearms and suspended his weapons licence pending the outcome of the investigation and reports from the man’s medical practitioner.

The man was charged with committing public nuisance and the improper storage of weapons and ammunition at his Dalby residence.

Sgt Thurn advised the protest was not a wise idea in light of the current restrictions and could undermine the great work being done by the community abiding by restrictions and reducing the chance of spreading the virus through regional areas.

He will appear before Dalby Magistrates Court on October 13.
