Cult hero hoping to clean up again
RACING: The Cleaner has dominated the Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes for the past two years and he's back for a shot at winning the Group 2 event for a historic third time tomorrow at Moonee Valley.
The Cleaner first stamped himself as a genuine group-level performer when he romped home in the 2014 Stakes before he finished a credible ninth in the Cox Plate.
He returned 12 months later for another comfortable win and earned himself another start in the Cox Plate, where he was able to finish seventh behind star mare Winx.
It has not been smooth sailing for The Cleaner since and he finished a flat 11th in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes first up, but trainer Peter Gelagotis remains confident that the cult hero can make history by winning a third straight Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes.
The Cleaner will face stiff competition in the 2016 edition of the race.
Cox Plate hopefuls Tosen Stardom and The United States are set to return in the Group 2 event and are both more than capable of winning.
Miss Rose De Lago won the P.B. Lawrence Stakes in impressive fashion and she looks well placed, while Mahuta is on the quick back-up after his third in the Memsie Stakes last weekend.
