Creepy pictures show spider devouring unlikely prey

IF YOU were afraid of spiders before, this could just about tip you over the edge.

A Sunshine Coast woman has watched a spider eat a gecko twice its size millimetres from her own home.

Jade Mel Ottaway has just moved to Beerwah and a gruesome encounter was her welcome from the local wildlife.

A spider (thought to be a huntsman) appeared on the outside of a glass sliding door leading to Ms Ottaway's deck, devouring a gecko twice its size.

"The gecko was already dead so I just let nature take its course and enjoy getting to see something very creepy," Ms Ottaway said.

It's not unusual for huntsman spiders to eat small lizards and even frogs, but their diet mainly consists of a variety of insects and arthropods.
