Gympie ice-induced crim pleads guilty from jail

A GYMPIE man who had a busy month of property crime in December, yesterday pleaded guilty from jail to three more similar offences committed earlier in the same month.

Jamie-Lee William Deacon, 27, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry of a vehicle workshop property with criminal intent, as well as wilful damage to a car and stealing a car alternator and keys, all on December 13.

Deacon pleaded guilty by video link from prison, where he is serving a sentence which included parole eligibility next month.

The damage was discovered about 7.45am and a review of security video showed the offences being committed about 3.28am.

Two vehicles had been unlawfully entered and property stolen or damaged, the court was told.

One vehicle with the alternator stolen had been valued at $300 and was intended for conversion to a race car, but was written off, as the alternator was valued at almost the value of the car.

Another vehicle valued at $3000, had been written off for the value of the $1000 excess on the owner's insurance.

"Why was he stealing," magistrate Chris Callaghan asked.

"He was on ice," Deacon's solicitor said.

Mr Callaghan sentenced Deacon to an extra three months on top of his current sentence but made no order of restitution, because Deacon had no prospect of making payment.
