Couple married for 69 years die within minutes of each other
A COUPLE died holding hands within 40 minutes of each other after 69 years of marriage.
Issac Vatkin was clutching his wife Teresa's hand as she passed on from Alzheimer's disease aged 89.
The heartbroken 91-year-old husband then passed away just 40 minutes later.
Staff at the Highland Park Hospital in Chicago found the couple unresponsive and breathing shallowly on Saturday.
Then after realising both didn't have long left they moved their beds side by side so they could hold each others hands for the last time.
The pair then passed away together, just like the final scene of the tear-jerking movie The Notebook.
Issac and Teresa had a joint funeral and were laid to rest next to each other at the Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, reports the Chicago Daily Herald.
Grandson William Vatkin said: "You didn't want to see them go, but you couldn't ask for anything more."
Their daughter Clara said her parents were completely unable to live apart and needed to be together even in death.
She said: "Their love for each other was so strong, they simply could not live without each other."
Rabbi Barry Schecter said: "They were always in love, literally to the end. To the last second."
The couple met in their native Argentina and were forced to communicate by letter only due to them living far apart.
Eventually they married and made their home in America, going on to have three children.
