CHINCHILLA Clay Target Club is on the verge of turning the big 5-0 and has its eyes set on a new clubhouse to mark the occasion.

The club recently secured a number of grants to go towards the construction of the new building and the overall improvement of the grounds.

"We were successful in getting a grant from Gaming Queensland for $35,000 and we received a CS Energy community benefit grant for $7000 as well as a $5000 grant from Cameby Downs (Yancoal) community fund,” Club treasurer Warren Daniells said.

"We've had a few kind donations too - Boodles Concrete have given us a discount which allows our dollar to go a lot further and a local, John Gray, donated the gravel for the building pad.

"Stage one was $100,000 alone. We've bought the shed locally, the concrete and slab is down and the goal is to have power on and the clubhouse ready prior to our annual shoot and then stage two is to do the fit-out of the building, and then the official opening will be next October at our annual shoot and our 50th anniversary,” Mr Daniells said.

He said the club had prospered in recent years and was experiencing strong membership because of the gas industry.

"We've had some good times through the gas industry by running Wednesday night shoots, which has allowed us to make many improvements through the club with lighting and improving our layouts,” he said.

"It makes us proud to know the hard work we've done has gone into something that will be appreciated for years and decades to come. It's adding to the assets and liveability of the community.”
