Chinchilla to face old rival in semi final
RUGBY UNION: A spot in the Downs Rugby C-grade grand final is up for grabs and Chinchilla has to go through an old rival to get there.
The minor premiers enjoyed a bye in the first round of the finals and will travel to Goondiwindi as favourites to take on the Dalby Wheatmen.
The winner of this fixture will be the first to earn a berth in grand final on September 1.
The Wheatmen finished the regular season in third but were impressive last weekend, defeating the Goondiwindi Emus in the major semi final.
It was Dalby's best performance of the year and the River Rats will need to be at their best to topple them.
River Rats coach Lindsay Ashby said he expected a tough game of football on Saturday.
"We expect a physical and fast game of football from Dalby,” Ashby said.
"The outside backs will be big in deciding this game for both side, particularly finishing tries.”
The River Rats were convincing winners the last time these teams played.
Chinchilla scored four tries to run away with the game 28-5, at Dalby's home ground three weeks ago.
Ashby his side could not be complacent against the Wheatmen and must ensure they played well if they wanted to guarantee a spot in the grand final.
"Our mindset is to complete the basics and make sure our set-piece is fine tuned,” Ashby said.
The loser will still be alive in the competition and will face the winner of Goondiwindi and Roma match for a spot in the grand final.
