Chinchilla State High put melons to good use

DO YOU know where kiwi fruit originated?

Or which of the four Great Lakes of Northern America is the smallest?

Who was the French sculptor behind The Thinker?

Which ancient king built the hanging gardens of Babylon to appease his homesick wife?

What popular drink once contained cocaine?

These are just a few of the questions which nearly 20 teams put their melons together to solve on Saturday night.

The Chinchilla State High School P&C trivia night drew more than 180enthusiasts to get the 2019 Melon Festival underway.

"The trivia evening is a tradition which marks the beginning of Melon Festival,” secretary Jenny Gailey said.

"This is the third time the school has hosted the event. It's a great bonus for us as a community organisation,” she said.

"This type of event showcases the true community spirit of Chinchilla,” quiz master and CSHS maths/physics teacher Brad Hubbard said at the end of the evening.

With $900 in total prize money to be won, the stakes were high.

Third place was awarded to The Heat which collected $100, runner-up The Indi-gogos went home with $300 and winning team Teachers and Tom walked away with a healthy $500.

For those of you still wondering, China, Erie, Auguste Rodin, Nebuchadnezzar II and Coca-Cola are the answers for the quandaries above.
