Chinchilla property fire sparks questions

CHINCHILLA Police, Ambulance and Fire and Emergency crews were all called out to a suspected house fire yesterday evening only to discover the blaze was coming from the charred remains of a burnt out vehicle.

The blaze occurred on a property along Auburn Rd, Chinchilla with crews being called to the scene at about 5.50pm.

Chinchilla Fire and Rescue Lieutenant Dale Wheeler said they were initially responding to a house fire after a nearby resident reported spotting smoke and flames on the property.

"We managed to extinguish the vehicle by about 6.20pm before making the scene safe and leaving the investigation with the Police,” Lt Wheeler said.

"We aren't aware of what caused the fire in the first place, that will be up to police to determine,” he said.

A Queensland Police media spokeswoman said the vehicle was already destroyed upon authorities entering the property, and while the cause is still unknown they are treating the fire as non-suspicious.

The Chinchilla Police station are yet to provide a statement in regards to the investigation.
