Chinchilla power outage explained

HOMES and offices around town have gone dark this afternoon after a power outage struck.

The power flicked off not long after 3.30pm, after an equipment failure.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said the failure occurred at a sub-station in town.

"Crews are working to repair the fault, it's expected to be repaired in the next three hours," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile dozens of residents have taken to Facebook to list affected areas including Sheridan St, Ellem Dr, Chinchilla Park Estate, Sommerfeld Cres, Bottletree Estate, Auburn Rd, Engine Rd, Warrego Hwy, Hayes Cl, King St, Glasson St, and Brigalow.
