Chinchilla brigade welcome brand new truck to the team

WITH three new recruits and a flash $500,000 fire truck in the garage, the Chinchilla Fire Brigade is more prepared for bushfire season.

The new first-response vehicle, affectionately known as 'Bravo', joined the ranks last month and has already been put to work.

Lieutenant Dale Wheeler said the brigade had attended 110 jobs in the past financial year, with 25 calls alone in July.

"Now equipped with four-wheel-drive capability, more storage space, top-of-the-range road crash rescue equipment and compressed air-foam system, thanks to 'Bravo' the Chinchilla Fire and Rescue team is better equipped to fight whatever emergency is thrown their way,” he said.

Hannah Johnson, Ashley Wheeler and Matthew Boyd joined the Chinchilla brigade two months ago and haven't looked back.

"It feels good to be doing something that gives back to your community,” Miss Johnson said.

The RIE calibrations coordinator said she wanted to join the brigade since high school.

"I have several friends who are part of the Chinchilla team and they all pushed me to apply.”

Lt Wheeler is ecstatic to have three new firefighters.

"It can be a real struggle to find suitable applicants so we were rapt to welcome these three to our ranks.”
