Celebrity chef Matt Golinski to wow crowds at Relish Fest
CELEBRITY chef and burns survivor Matt Golinski will make a special appearance at this year's Relish Food and Wine Festival.
Matt became a household name through his TV appearances as a chef on Ready Steady Cook, as well as overcoming enormous personal tragedy when he lost his family in a house fire on Boxing Day 2011.
He will run cooking demonstrations at the festival in Maryborough on June 4, as well as a meet and greet session at Gatakers Artspace from 3-4pm.
Matt said he was always proud to showcase local produce.
"Food is such an important part of our lifestyle as Queenslanders and there is nothing better than being able to support our local producers, farmers and retailers. I'm really excited to cook with the world-class produce the Fraser Coast has to offer."
He will be joined by leading chefs from the Fraser Coast's top restaurants, including Coast's Nick Street-Brown and Hajime Horiguchi.
They will provide sample dishes with Hervey Bay scallops, king prawns and the Coast pavlova as their three champion meals on offer at the event.
Coast Bar and Restaurant has been part of the festival since its inception, and owner Julia Paussa said the event kept getting better.
"The first year was dampened by bad weather and I just didn't think anyone would come back the following year," she said.
"Thank goodness people have persevered and now we have an event in our region that the whole Coast team are so proud to be part of."
Both chefs are excited to bring their wealth of knowledge back to their home town to show Fraser Coast what they can do, and without Relish Food Festival on the map, this just wouldn't happen.
This year's theme is all about showcasing our incredible array of local produce, with the food being the hero of the day.
Award winning wines and craft beers are also a huge part of the day, with many options on offer to cleanse the pallet after sampling the food of the region.
Julia said the location is what makes the festival so captivating.
"It's such a beautiful way to showcase Maryborough," she said.
"The space at portside really lends itself to events such as this."
Relish Food and Wine Festival is delighted to have Matt headlining the 2016 festival in Maryborough, June 4.
Relish Food and Wine Festival originally started in 2012 as a small group of restaurateurs presenting their cooking abilities through live demonstrations, with minimal stallholders and little representation from local food outlets.
Fast-forward to four years on and Relish has become one of Queensland's must-do experiences, highlighted on many calendars across the country.
Julia added that Relish is the perfect way for residents of Fraser Coast to have an authentic experience by sampling a wide variety of dishes from local restaurants, and try something new.
"It has the capacity to evolve more and more, and we see that each years as it grows," Julia added.
