Bureau of Meteorology issues severe thunderstorm warning

THE Bureau of Meteorology has tonight issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Darling Downs, Maranoa and Warrego districts.

The warning which also predicted damaging winds for the towns of Chinchilla, Miles, Roma, Taroom, Moonie and Surat was issued by the Bureau at exactly 7:56 pm on Wednesday, September 2.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have advised residents in these areas to move vehicles under cover away from trees, make sure pets are safe and to bring them inside if possible, secure loose outdoor items, seek shelter indoors (not under trees), avoid using telephones during the thunderstorm and beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

The next warning and an update of conditions will be broadcast at 11:00pm tonight.

For emergency assistance, contact the SES on 132 500.
