Bubble O’Bill change ‘ruins’ ice cream

Devoted Bubble O'Bill fans have accused Streets of "ruining" the popular ice cream by removing the bubblegum nose in its new tub form.

In response to the ice cream outrage, the company is now offering a sweet deal to help soothe disappointed dessert fans.

Earlier this month it was revealed that the iconic ice cream would now be available in tub form after a photo it at Ritchies Merbein IGA in Victoria went viral on Facebook.

While fans were excited at the new addition, some that got their hands on the product were less than impressed by the new version.

While the Bubble O'Bill on a stick has a bubblegum nose and chocolate coating on the back,

the tub form has chocolate and caramel swirled together with bubblegum flavoured candy pieces throughout.

While many fans of the ice cream were excited about it being in tub form, several were unhappy that there was no longer a bubblegum nose - after all, it's how Bubble O'Bill got his name.

"Only downfall is they have ruined the Bubble O'Bill tubs with stupid little round lollies that taste like crap!" one person wrote on Facebook. "That's not a Bubble O'Bill ingredient!"

"Better be more than one bubblegum in them," another person commented.

In response, Streets brand manager Samantha Jarmul said the company would be offering fans the chance to win 20 mini gumball machines filled with Bubble O'Bill noses.

But after some fans were unhappy that Bubble O’Bill’s nose was missing, Streets announced there would be a competition.

"The people of Australia have spoken, and we listened,' she said in a statement.

"We know Bubble O'Bill's nose is an iconic part of his identity, which is why we are giving fans the opportunity to win his nose to enjoy with the brand new tubs."

Bubble O'Bill fans will get the chance to win one gumball machines, which contain around 500 grams worth of the gum noses, via the Bubble O'Bill Facebook page later today.

Ms Jarmul also hinted that the competition might not be the last chance for fans to get their hand on Bubble O'Bill noses.

"We wanted to give our customers a chance to enjoy Bubble O'Bill's iconic gumball nose alongside the new tubs and we're hoping they'll love it as much as we do," she told news.com.au.

"Who knows - if everyone is as excited as we are, maybe they'll be seeing more noses around!"
