Brothers clown around as they travel Australia

ANDREW Brophy and his brother Matthew didn't have to run away from home to join the circus.

The circus is their home.

The two brothers have travelled with their parents as part of the Brophy Bros Circus all their lives.

The pair are seventh generation circus performers.

The circus has been amazing audiences at the Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show for the past three years.

Mr Brophy said he and Matthew couldn't imagine life any other way.

"I've been doing this for as long as I remember," he said.

"I started out just holding animals for the acts and then as I got older I started the learn some acts myself.

"I used to unicycle with my uncle and now I juggle."

Matthew, 8, is home schooled and also has a part in the show as a clown.

"People love the clown," he said.

"I wear a nose, a hat and my costume.

"I love being part of the circus and meeting lots of new people all the time.

"One of my favourite parts about the circus is seeing all the beautiful scenery when we drive around the country."

Brophy Bros Circus performs eight shows and conducts five circus school workshops at the show over the three days.

Catch the performances at 10am, 1pm and 4.30pm and the workshops at 11am and 2pm today.
