Brigalow bands together to donate
PROCEEDS from the Brigalow Charity Bush Carnival held last September have gone towards vital cancer research funding.
Members of the Brigalow Recreation Ground Association last week gave a cheque worth $5000 to the Chinchilla Cancer Council.
Association president and councillor Greg Olm said several members of the tight-knit community of Brigalow had been affected by cancer in recent years, including his own wife, Glenda.
"My wife died of cancer in 2016,” Cr Olm said.
"It's not isolated to us, but it's a small community and we know everyone,” he said.
"We've been touched with cancer on more than one occasion so we just think its a fitting cause.
"If the money we give can go towards a cure, well that's what its all about.”
Record numbers came out to the charity event last year, with just fewer than 700 people going through the gates.
"Last year was our biggest year that we've had,” Cr Olm said.
"It was a lot of people.
"We've been well supported by the Brigalow community and the wider community, so it was a great day and that's reason why we could give so much away.”
Cr Olm hopes this year's event will be even bigger and better.
