"Speeding to work": They 23-year-old driving at 185kmh

A 23-YEAR-OLD Blackwater man was allegedly caught doing 185km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

The driver, who ran into police on Dysart Rd, Winchester, said he was speeding because he was running late for work.

Additionally, according to the Queensland Police statement, a 73-year-old Freshwater Point man was pinged at 101km/h in a 50km/h zone on the Bruce Highway near Sarina.

Both drivers received a $1099 on the spot fine.

Mackay police have already caught 11 drivers this month travelling at speeds exceeding 40km/h over the posted speed limit.

"Excess speed kills. At some speeds all it would take is a burst tyre or to hit a pot-hole," the statement reads.

"For the benefit of everyone who uses our roads, monitor your speeds and please slow down.
