IF YOU didn't know it was illegal to not wear a seatbelt while towing your car off a public boat ramp you probably weren't alone.

But as we know, when it comes to the law ignorance is not usually going to get you out of a ticket.

Keep in mind you have to follow road rules on road-related areas (like car parks) though and you should stay out of trouble, as long as you know what the rules are, that is.

There are a bunch of road rules I see people breaking so often I sometimes think they probably don't realise they're doing the wrong thing.

These are a few:

• Keeping left. Did you know if the speed limit is more than 80kmh or if there is a "keep left unless overtaking" sign, you can't travel in the right-hand lane unless you're actually overtaking another vehicle? There are a few exceptions but generally, keep left means keep left.
• U-turns. You're only allowed to make a U-turn when there's a sign saying U-turn permitted. I see this happening almost daily at the intersection of Aerodrome Rd and Maud St, Maroochydore. There's a lot of traffic there and people end up trying to U-turn into a lane while other drivers have a green light to go. I'm amazed I haven't seen any crashes happen.
• Yellow lights. Yellow means stop unless it's unsafe not to. If you get caught slipping through when you should have stopped you'll cop a fine.
• Roundabouts. So many things going wrong here. Everyone should brush up on roundabout rules.
