Applications open to host Australia Day celebrations

AUSTRALIA Day is all about bringing people together to celebrate those who have made a special contribution to the community.

And the opportunity to host next year's celebration in Jandowae is still available for community groups.

The Western Downs Regional Council is calling for expressions of interest to host the Jandowae district event in 2019.

Applications will close on Friday, September 28, and councillor Kaye Maguire said this would be an excellent opportunity to groups to be involved in a beloved event.

"We're proud to be able to engage with our community groups throughout the entire year and this occasion is a wonderful chance for them to showcase their area and community pride,” she said.

"With the success of the Jandowae Timbertown Festival, we know that Jandowae is great at putting on events, so we're thrilled to be able to support them on another fantastic Australia Day,” Cr Maguire said.

"The selected submission will have full assistance from council, so if anyone has a great idea for an Australia Day event or venue, we want to hear about it.”
