Hail paints a white landscape after spring thunderstorm
AMY McCloskey was visiting her parents in rural Wooderson west of Calliope and could only watch as the wild Sunday afternoon storm rolled in.
The hail thundering onto the iron roof of the home of Doug and Kim Sorensen was deafening as she sheltered with her parents and children. Ms McCloskey along with others quickly posted photos of the storm event on social media.
Ms McCloskey said they could easily see the storm coming and as it approached its strong winds blew over the outdoor chairs.
"It hailed for half-an-hour. There was no rain, just hail," she said.
"It was fairly small but just a lot of it.
"It just belted down. Really loud on the roof.
"Within minutes the ground was covered. It built up quickly, three inches deep on the front steps.
"My parents have lived here 10 years and never seen one that big."
Ms McCloskey said afterwards it was "freezing outside" when they all went out to look.
