All the Christmas events to look forward this year

IT’S nearly that time of the year againand the Western Downs is going to be turned into a festive wonderland with all of the exciting Christmas activities on offer for residents of all ages to enjoy.

CHINCHILLA

Christmas events are set to light up the town, but this year is set be extra special with the opening of the Botanic Parklands earlier this year on Saturday June, 1.

Every night from December 14, the Parklands will host the Chinchilla Christmas Light Show from 7pm to 10.30pm.

There will be a massive display of Christmas lights and the event will feature the annual Mayoral Christmas Carols every night up until Christmas Eve, excluding Sundays.

In a joint celebration between the Western Downs Regional Council and Chinchilla Lions Club the light show is set to become an annual event, showcasing a brand-new 13 metre Christmas tree this year.

Bring along the whole family to enjoy the lights and carols along with local artists, Christmas crafts and activities – also the play and BBQ area will still be open for use.

Be sure to bring along a gold coin for entry which goes towards the Lions Club’s community support programs.

The Chinchilla Community, Commerce and Industry Inc are also hosting the CCCI Christmas Street Party, a free event on Thursday December 12.

The festivities kick off at 5pm Heeney St with kids rides and activities, late night shopping and a major prize winner will be announced for the 2019 Buy Local Campaign with the winner receiving a $5,000 Betta Home Living voucher.

TARA

The Tara Future’s group is holding their annual Christmas lights competition with winners announced at the Christmas street party on Saturday, December 7 from 4pm at Grevillea Park in the main street.

With the overall winner set to receive $500 thanks to sponsors Shell QGC now is the perfect time to get cracking.

To enter just submit a form at Tara Hardware.

The Tara Local Ambulance Committee are also holding a Christmas Tree Expo at the Tara Memorial Hall from December 2-6 open daily from 10am-4pm.

It’s free to enter and there are also some cash prizes to be won.

MILES

The Miles community are getting into the Christmas spirit with a street carnival happening in Anzac Park on Thursday, December 12 from 5.30pm.

There will be an array of craft and market stalls to help you take care of some last minute gift shopping and Santa himself will be making an appearance from 7pm for some photos with the little ones.

There will also be a magician, an animal nursery, pony rides and laser skirmish for the kids to enjoy and the Miles Christmas lights competition will also be announced.
