Adra upcycle into new shop
WITH the ribbon cut and the formalities taken care of, Adra Upcycle Chinchilla officially opened Friday October 4.
Simon Lewis, senior manager Australia region for Adra Australia, said the upcycle centre, located next to their op shop, provided an opportunity for people who work for the dole to find work skills and be able to get re-integrated into the workforce and give them self-confidence.
"Adra Australia likes to work in multiple ways in the community to leverage what we have in op shops and become community centres, community hubs,” he said.
"So we have that in a number of places across Australia and we have about 115 project across Australia, and this is our newest.
"We're looking forward to providing opportunities to build products, learn new skills and work habits, and get into having work in Chinchilla.”
Projects completed so far include tables and benches, kids' tables and planter boxes.
BEST Employment provides support to the upcycle centre through the Work for the Dole initiative.
Performance manager at BEST Employment Beverly Taylor said the activity is a great addition to our community.
"Upskilling our jobseekers with vital skills and providing essential work experience opportunities which will help them find employment,” Ms Taylor said.
Items built at the Upcycle Centre will be available for purchase through ADRA's Chinchilla op shop.
