Adopting a Pound Pet so easy this Christmas
WESTERN Downs Regional Council is making it a breeze to adopt a new four-legged family member as part of its Pound Pets initiative in the lead-up to Christmas.
As part of the program, all dogs and cats currently sold through the pounds at Dalby and Chinchilla are desexed at no extra cost.
This makes getting a new pet for Christmas more affordable and less of a hassle for Western Downs families.
Council spokesman for planning and environment Andrew Smith said adopting a pet was a great Christmas gift for the family.
"Adding another member to the family is very special,” Cr Smith said.
"We have cats and dogs across our pounds who are very friendly and we want to find them a new home.
"Council has taken away all of the stress of buying a pet and made it a very simple process.”
Including registration, purchasing a dog as part of the Pound Pets initiative will cost $137 and purchasing a cat will cost $42.
Western Downs resident Tori Goodchild recently purchased a pomeranian-cross from the Dalby pound.
She said the dog was bought for her child and the pound made purchasing the small dog easy.
"We called the pound for a little dog for my five-year-old,” she said.
"They said they had a dog at Chinchilla and they brought him to Dalby. "
