5 Coctail recipes to get your New Year's going

The Christmas hangover has probably set in, either literally or merely from the hype leading up to yesterday. Now the countdown is on to 2016. So to make that headache a little more bearable, here are some cocktail ideas to see in the new year. Cheers!

Watermelon and blueberry cocktail

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2-3 cups watermelon flesh, diced
  • 125ml vodka
  • 75ml triple sec
  • 3tbs fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup ice
  • 10 blueberries.

METHOD:

Place a few blueberries in bottom of glasses and muddle. Combine watermelon, vodka, triple sec and lime juice in a blender along with the ice and blitz. Pour over muddled blueberries. Serves 3-4.

Cosmopolitan

INGREDIENTS:

  • 80ml vodka
  • 30ml Cointreau
  • juice of half a lime
  • 70ml cranberry juice.

METHOD:

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake for 1 minute and serve in chilled martini glass. Serves 2.

Whisky sour

INGREDIENTS:

  • 60ml bourbon whisky
  • 30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 15ml sugar syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice.

METHOD:

Place all ingredients in cocktail shaker and shake well for 1 minute. Pour through strainer into glass. Garnish with lemon wedge. Serves 1-2.

New Year's Eve sparkling punch

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 bottle champagne
  • 1 bottle lemonade
  • 100ml vodka
  • 100ml Malibu
  • 2 limes, sliced
  • 100g frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup passionfruit pulp
  • Ice.

METHOD:

Mix all ingredients together in a punch bowl. Enjoy responsibly.

Lychee Martini

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 whole lychees (canned)
  • 60ml lychee juice (from can)
  • 60ml Paraiso Lychee Liqueur
  • 60ml gin or vodka
  • Ice.

METHOD:

Place one lychee in each glass. Mix gin or vodka, lychee juice and liqueur with ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour over lychees. Serves 4.
