NPL dumping may fade if Suns can manage FFA Cup win

ROCKDALE City Suns might have been dumped out of this season's National Premier Leagues competition in New South Wales last month.

But that would soon be forgotten if they can win their FFA Cup round-of-16 match at WIN Stadium tonight to progress to the quarter-finals. To do that, however, they will need to get past A-League champions Melbourne Victory.

And while the Victory will be without several key players, coach Kevin Muscat said he had experimented with different line-ups in the win against Port Melbourne in the last round.

"We're going to have a few players unavailable through international duty, so we looked at a few different things (against Port Melbourne) and I was pretty pleased," he said.

The Victory will still have plenty of talent, including Fahid Ben Khalfallah (pictured), Gui Finkler, Carl Valeri and Kosta Barbarouses.

The match will be controlled by Katie Patterson, marking the first time a female referee will have officiated in a match in Australia involving an A-League team.

Western Sydney will also be out to earn a place in the last eight when it takes on Queensland side Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic has rebuilt his side in the off-season after a disappointing A-League campaign, with the team downing Brisbane Roar 1-0 to move into the round of 16.

Also tonight, Hume City will host Sydney Olympic and Metrostars are at home to the Oakleigh Cannons.
